Paedophiles Comment

I agree with what you say about paedophiles, I will never understand these sorts of people, I think it's vile how paedophiles can be let out of prison early for good behaviour, paedophiles cannot be cured! I think paedophiles should never be let out of prison or just castrate them! It's always usually men we hear about but surely women paedophiles should also be spoken about in the press.

Vegetarian Comment

Comment responding to Sarah Rushworth's vegetarian blog
http://sarahs-scribbles09.blogspot.com/

I agree with you, I have a friend that's a vegetarians too but will go out and buy a £200 real leather Dolce and Gabbana bag. I'm not a vegetarian but I think killing animals for vanity is wrong, I don't wear any make-up that is tested on animals or anything that is made from animals because it is wrong. I think there is a very big difference with wearing an animal and eating them, especially when people charge ridicules amounts for fur or leather.

Public Display of Affection Comment

Comment responding to Kate Eggington's PDA blog
http://katenicola89-kate.blogspot.com/

I totally agree with you, holding hands, hugs and a little kiss is fine but anything more is just gross, on the way to the train station a few weeks ago there was two teenagers basically having sex on the wall in the middle of the day with loads of people around, I don't know why people do this, it should be kept behind closed doors!!

Spitting!

Okay I actually think spitting is absolutely vile! I decided to write a blog on this after I was enjoying a night out last week when someone spat next to me and it landed right on my shoe! I was disgusted and told the person so. I don't understand why people feel the need to do it, its spreads disease for one thing and it looks horrible and I think anyone who you don't know and they spit right in front of you you immediately take a disliking to them, I do anyway. It is wrong.

Teenage Parents

I was watching a programme last week called The Hospital, that week it was about teens mums. I was really shocked by what I saw, there was a 17 year old girl on the programme who was still heavily smoking and wanted a baby from the age of 13 because "when you're 13 its a fashion to have a baby". Her and her boyfriend decided to have a baby after being together for a month because they wanted one. The girl wouldn't listen to any advice the midwife or doctors gave her, with the midwife saying all the teen parents she meets all have attitudes and don't want to listen to anything they are being told. It's disguising. The UK has the highest rate of teen pregnancies, what exactly is the government doing to prevent this?

Anorexia

I recently watched a programme called 'The Truth About Online Anorexia', I have watched programmes about anorexia before so I already know about the pro-ana sites, I went to look at a few pro-ana sites and they are awful. Giving people tips on how to get thinner by eating little or no food, and how to take your mind off wanting something to eat. I myself could never go without eating, I love to eat, and I don't understand why or how someone would want to put themselves through this sort of 'torture'. I think celebrities have a lot to do with why so many girls and boys want to be thin, all the female celebrities on the red carpet are so small and skinny, it gives the impression you have to look like that to be amazing, and young people are drawn to that. It doesn't help that models have to be a certain size, I remember reading in a magazine a few weeks ago about how Karolina Kurkova, a model, was blasted for being "too fat" when she walked down a catwalk in a bikini, critics said she had back fat, love handles and cellulite! Every magazine I read there is always something in it that is criticizing "bad" things about celebrities, maybe for having abit of stomach fat or for wearing no make-up or having chipped nail polish! The media push these image's of perfection that half the time are probably photo shopped, it's no wonder people have disorders like anorexia with the type of world we live in.

Bad Music Comment

Comment responding to Jordon Smith's bad music blog http://writingfromdesolationrow.blogspot.com/

I agree with what you are saying, last week I heard on the radio that parents are banning their children/teenagers from looking up the word 'emo' on the Internet because of the dangers, and after reading your blog I had a look at The Daily Mail's story on the teenage girl who killed herself and find it appalling. Ever since the word 'emo' came around there has been nothing but bad press about it,
I wouldn't consider myself emo just because I wear black skinny jeans, have a side fringe and listen to what I think is amazing music. I listen to alternative rock and I guess some of what I listen to would fall into the category 'emo' but I don't go around promoting suicide and self harm, The Daily Mail says "Emo fans wear dark clothes, practice self-harm and listen to "suicide cult" rock bands." Apparently a suicide cult rock band is My Chemical Romance, I have been listening to that band for about five years, so they were a big part of my teenage years and I can say I have never thought of them as a suicide cult rock band, it's just good music. I think the meaning of the word 'emo' has just been taken too far, if anything emo kids are the victims in all this, you usually see on the news that someone has been beaten up or killed for wearing 'emo' clothes or listening to emo music! I almost always hear people having a dig at emo's by calling them "grebo's" or telling the guys to get there hair cut!! It's not like every person around who is listening to My Chemical Romance is committing suicide, and just because one girl does all of a sudden they are a suicide cult, it's ridicules. I guess the 'emo fashion' has become abit of a trend over the past couple of years, but people can't be so closed minded anymore, too many people judge before even knowing what a person is like and just because someone dresses a certain way and likes to listen to rock music doesn't mean they are a depressive emo kid that takes every word literally in a song and kills themselves.

Abortion Comment

Comment responding to Dalwinder Lidhar's blog on abortion http://dally-lidhar.blogspot.com/

I totally disagree with you when you say abortion is murder, "why have sex if you cannot deal with the responsibility that comes with it?", what if someone was raped or the pregnancy is a result of incest or child abuse? Are they really going to want to give birth to a child that is the outcome of such horrific acts? "Just think if your parents aborted you?" Well for one thing you wouldn't know about it...! I am obviously for abortion, I think if someone does accidentally get pregnant from not taking the proper precautions when having sex like using condoms then it is up to them if they want to keep it or not, they might have financial problems at the time or just be too young and irresponsible, some women don't get a choice in having an abortion because some times there can be problems with the baby such as it being severely disabled and not even have much of a life when it is born, or giving birth would put the mothers life at risk, the mother could also be a drug addict and it's not fair to bring a child into that sort of environment, not only could it have a bad upbringing but when it is born it could be addicted to whatever substance the mother has been using and will need to be weened off it at birth. I don't think you can say abortion is murder because abortions are legal up to 24 weeks, at this time the foetus is just a collection of cells and wouldn't be able to survive outside the womb. I think a women has a right to decide her own future and do what is best for her, she has a right to do what she wants with her body.

Kids Comment

Comment responding to Josephine Daly's Kids blog http://dantesinferno64.blogspot.com/

You start off by saying the film 'Kids' is the most shocking and unpleasant film you have ever seen... But I found the film pretty boring and the 'shocking' scenes mundane, all I can think is there is definitely a generation gap. I think the generation of today have seen so much gore and horror in movies now that films with sex, drug taking and violence are not so shocking, or maybe I'm just use to films like that. I remember watching 'Clockwork Orange' a few years ago, it intrigued me because of how controversial it was and I wanted to see why it got banned, there is a few nasty scenes in that film but I don't think I'd go as far to say it should be banned because to be honest it Isn't that bad, but back when it was made there was massive up raw about the rape scene but it's just because that had never been seen before. If anything the film is quite artistic with it's pleasant music, dress sense and decor. Apparently you couldn't find any moral to the 'Kids' film, but I think there is definitely a moral through out the whole film, which is to do with sex, age, and the fact STD's are being spread without knowledge. The fact is things like that do happen and there are kids out there like that.

The Morning After Pill

I have just read in the news that girls as young as 11 will soon be able to request the morning after pill by text message in Oxfordshire! I can't even begin to believe that girls as young as 11 are having sex, when I was that age I was happy having fun with my friends, sex never even entered my head then. With that sort of system set up where kids are basically being given the impression it's fine to have sex at that age and get pregnant because oh don't worry you can just text for a pill!!! It's just wrong, I know there is nothing that can be done to stop young people having sex but couldn't they do something more safe like send out condoms?! Sex is so exploited now though it's no wonder there are so many teen pregnancies! I don't understand how so many people can be so irresponsible, or how they just want to grow up so fast.

Euthanasia Comment

Comment responding to Sudareth Kumar http://blogsskumar2009.blogspot.com/

I agree that euthanasia should be made legal, I don't think its fair that if someone is terminally ill and wants to die sooner they shouldn't be aloud to have their own lives ended. It seems to me it is a form of control, basically playing God and telling people they can't end their own lives, it's their life they should be able to do what they want with it but it's never that simple. "Religion takes a firm stand insisting that euthanasia is against the word and will of God. If humankind has approved homosexuality, suicide and abortion in the face of religious opposition why can it not approve euthanasia?" Suicide is usually private, whereas euthanasia is basically asking someone to kill you, but what about turning off someones life support machine? That is something someone has no say in and they are going to die without the life support machine but if someone is terminally ill and never going to get better and will defiantly die why shouldn't they have the choice of having their life ended?

Kids

So last week we watched a movie called 'Kids', by the way the lecturer talked about the film before it started it seemed it was going to be a lot more controversial than it was, it didn't help that when it started I realised I had already seen it. Some aspects of the film were a bit wrong though, the story was basically about a guy called Telly not knowing he has HIV and pretty much sleeping with every virgin around, then a girl called Jennie finding out she caught it from him, which wasn't good for his best friend Casper who decided to have sex with her while she wasn't in a state to really say anything to him. I think we should have watched a much more controversial movie like Clockwork Orange that would have shocked people more and gave them more to write and talk about. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113540/

Smoking Comment

Comment replying to Charlotte Randles-Mills smoking blog http://charlottes-being-bad.blogspot.com/:

I agree in the sense that some people do see smoking as being "cool" but I don't agree with you saying "
We smoke because we do, no rational behind it, no social, psychological or scientific reason we just do and that is that". There has to be a reason behind it, weather it's because the persons parents smoke so therefore they have been brought up in that type of environment and see it as the thing to do because they have lived with it, or maybe they are just doing what their friends are doing to fit in and feel accepted in some way... Asking the question "why do teenagers start smoking?" isn't that simple to answer, teenage years are full of hormones and the constant mood swings so no wonder they turn to something like smoking, it's seen as 'bad' behaviour and 'wrong', maybe there is some sort of psychological reason behind that, also you failed to mention that smoking is an addiction, the government are trying to put a stop to so many people smoking by using the new pictures on packets and television adverts, but of course ignorance is bliss and I know I don't take any notice of the photographs on the packets but instead just reach for a cigarette. I think smoking is something everyone tries once in their lives even though that person that is about to take a drag knows exactly what is in that white stick and what damage it can course but still they do it. I guess everyone has their own reasons.

Infidelity

I recently watched a movie called The Last Kiss, which is about a guy who has an amazing relationship with a girl, they are so happy. At the start of the film she finds out she is pregnant and the guy all of a sudden feels trapped and scared. He meets a new girl at a wedding and confides in her about how he feels about the relationship, the new girl is young and exciting and makes the guy feel younger. He starts to hang out with her without telling his girlfriend... he decides to go to a party with her and tells a friend if his girlfriend asks where he is tell her she is with him. Soon they kiss and the guy feels guilty and goes back home to his girlfriend, but he is unaware his girlfriend knows where he has been, she confronts him, he tells her they just kissed, and they end up having a huge row, the guy goes back to the other girl and ends up sleeping with her. The next day he goes to talk to his girlfriend, she is willing to try again until he tells her they slept together. He then ends up sitting outside her house for days until she is ready to talk.
It's a really good movie even though it is a bit upsetting! It made me think about why people cheat, it just causes heartache when the other person finds out, not to mention that all trust the couple had would have gone. I can understand the guy felt trapped and like nothing new was going to happen in his life but he was just looking at it from the wrong angle. If you are so happy with someone why jeopardize it by cheating? I have cheated on a boyfriend in the past but I was young, I wouldn't do it again now. I believe if you are with someone then you should be monogamous and if things go wrong in the relationship then end it.

Week 12...

After reading through a few other peoples blogs many of them seem to suggest the topic for week 12 should be alcohol. I think this would be a good topic to discuss because all university students seem to do is get drunk... It makes me wonder how bad is it for us and what is it doing to our bodies. I know most of the time when I go out drinking I am going to have an awful hangover the next day but I still continue to drink more than I should.
Watching something on television about alcohol a few months ago I remember an expert saying technically having a drink every day is better than binge drinking, but obviously drinking nothing at all would be a lot healthier. But that is never going to happen. It's too much fun going out and getting drunk even if it isn't good for you. What would we do if alcohol was not around?
