Smoking Comment

Comment replying to Charlotte Randles-Mills smoking blog http://charlottes-being-bad.blogspot.com/:

I agree in the sense that some people do see smoking as being "cool" but I don't agree with you saying "
We smoke because we do, no rational behind it, no social, psychological or scientific reason we just do and that is that". There has to be a reason behind it, weather it's because the persons parents smoke so therefore they have been brought up in that type of environment and see it as the thing to do because they have lived with it, or maybe they are just doing what their friends are doing to fit in and feel accepted in some way... Asking the question "why do teenagers start smoking?" isn't that simple to answer, teenage years are full of hormones and the constant mood swings so no wonder they turn to something like smoking, it's seen as 'bad' behaviour and 'wrong', maybe there is some sort of psychological reason behind that, also you failed to mention that smoking is an addiction, the government are trying to put a stop to so many people smoking by using the new pictures on packets and television adverts, but of course ignorance is bliss and I know I don't take any notice of the photographs on the packets but instead just reach for a cigarette. I think smoking is something everyone tries once in their lives even though that person that is about to take a drag knows exactly what is in that white stick and what damage it can course but still they do it. I guess everyone has their own reasons.
